Re-humanizing communication?
Mar. 5th, 2018 10:34 amI've been kicking around an idea.. I've always been plotting some non-profit that I could start up. ..mostly for the sake of employing myself and getting away from having a boss. but the hitch is that my personal morals would prevent me from basing it on a premise/need that doesn't actually help people. (I have observed that such a thing is more common than you'd think within non-profits)
Anyhow, I was reading an article about Nokia bringing back the "matrix" 8110 slider phone and was trying to ascertain if it's features would be enough to switch from a smart phone to. [FWIW: They weren't] One of the missing pieces for my wants is that it still used the same terrible T9 keyboard from back in the day. I started thinking about this as a plus side though. I think that there is something semi-tangible to be gained from going back to voice calls from text/email.
From this grew the idea for a non-profit that outlined methods for enhancing your social-health, (if you will) mostly by prescribing meat-space interpersonal activities. It stretches beyond the phone potentially.. I've been kicking around another idea in my personal life of picking one day a week and using it to have lunch with a local friend who I haven't seen in a long time. At work we're doing a "random coffee" micro meetup, where you get paired with someone in the company and get a chance to get to know them. Something like these could be a part of the aforementioned methods.. Re-humanizing communications? IDK.
I'm guessing that some reading this may not get the need. but I think it's there. It gets worse the older you get, and I think the type of career you're in has an effect too.
anyway.. just making notes here.
