media consumption
Dec. 7th, 2018 10:51 amI've been reading a lot. I'm on the 3rd book of the novels that "The Expanse" is about. I _think_ they are roughly going season per book, so the end of this one will get me to where the show is currently at. I'm unsure if I'll move on to the fourth book before season four comes out.. but that's going to be a while.. In getting through this book, I've realized that I mostly like reading about the ship; the Rocinante. ..I guess to a lesser extent, the crew. The chapters about the crew of the behemoth and of Melba really bore me. Maybe it's that I already know mostly what happens from the show.
Right this minute, I'm watching a video of Carter's "Malaise" speech. It's pretty wild. and too bad it didn't go anywhere. Basically it was meant to be a response to the 70's energy crisis, but rather than address the symptom (foreign dependence on oil) he goes after the cause in the form of the country's existential crisis in terms of consumption, personal greed, an un-united nation, etc. It's so good and so real. Here's a link to the whole thing: https://millercenter.org/the-presidency/presidential-speeches/july-15-1979-crisis-confidence-speech
( spotify year end top list stuff.. )
